Scenario:

Michael, a 19-year-old soccer player has been training rigorously for the upcoming season. 

He participates in daily training that involve running, jumping and quick changes of direction on the field. During a practice session, Michael starts to complain of localised pain in his lower leg specifically along the shinbone (tibia). The pain increases with activity and decreases with rest. There is tenderness and swelling over the affected area. Michael experiences difficulty putting weight on the affected leg and notices a decrease in his ability to perform at his usual level during practices and games.
