Case Study One
Sunny is a 15-year-old student who has been experiencing persistent feelings of sadness and low mood. They are finding it challenging to concentrate on their studies and have lost interest in activities they used to enjoy. Sunny comes from a loving and supportive family but doesn't have much money. They enjoyed playing sports when they were younger but have not played now for a number of years. They often struggle when challenges arise in their life and find it hard to know what they can do to improve their overall health.
Case Study Two
Sammy is a 17-year-old student who recently obtained their driver's licence. They often engage in risky behaviours, such as speeding and using their phone while driving. Sammy is a representative rugby league player, training four days a week. They have a large group of mates at school who often travel with them to social events where they drink heavily, often needing to stay the night before driving home in the morning. Sammy’s parents are putting pressure on them to improve their grades at school and want them to stay home to study more.
Case Study Three
Eman is a 16-year-old student who is experiencing excessive worry and anxiety, particularly when it comes to academic performance. They want to do well in Year 11 to set themself up to get a great HSC result. Eman’s friends also study hard and have a not-so-friendly competition happening between them. Eman's parents are separated and they live mostly with their mother but don't see her much because of the mother’s work schedule. Eman is very resourceful and has a good understanding about health but often has anxiety attacks before exams.
4. Create and deliver a health and wellbeing session to your peers with the goal of improving one skill for strengthening and sustaining self.
5. Propose a health promotion initiative that aims to enhance three or more of these skills in relation to a chosen health-related issue at the school. Include:
- Proposal for feedback, improvement and approval.
- Gather/create the resources needed to implement the health promotion campaign.
- Develop a plan for the health promotion campaign to be carried out in the community.
- Assess the health promotion campaign and how it might impact other young people's skills to enhance and protect themselves in this health-related issue.
