Learning Activities
Work in small groups to conduct research into how movement skills are acquired, developed and improved in a sport of your choice.
Produce a video, presentation or in depth report that includes:
- What does the research tell us about acquiring, developing and improving the movement skill?
- How is this applied in practice?
- The characteristics of the learner.
- The stages of skill acquisition and how to move through them, how long they might take and which practice method might be best used at this stage.
- The characteristics of the sports skill chosen (gross and fine, continuous, discrete and serial, open and closed, self-paced and externally paced).
- A summary of the performance elements for executing the skill in their chosen sport
(decision-making, strategic and tactical development).
- Which types of feedback would be best used? (task-intrinsic, augmented, concurrent, delayed, knowledge of results, knowledge of performance).
- A description of three practice sessions to improve skills in this sport.
- What further research questions might be helpful in understanding the development of the chosen skill in the sport chosen?
