Challenges and opportunities for individuals and organisations
Learning Activities
1. ‘Digital Health’ activity. Divide the class into groups and assign each group one of the following areas of digital health technology:
- Electronic Health Records (EHR): How digital records are used to store, manage and share patient health information.
- Telemedicine/Telehealth: Remote consultations and health monitoring, especially in rural or underserved areas.
- Health Apps & Wearables: Fitness trackers, mental health apps, medication management apps.
- Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare: How AI is used for diagnostics, personalised treatment plans and predictive health analytics.
- Health Information Exchanges (HIE): Platforms that allow different healthcare providers to securely share patient data.
Each group needs to research their assigned technology to:
- Explain what the technology is and how it functions.
- Provide real-world examples or applications of the technology (e.g. a specific telehealth platform or the use of EHRs in hospitals).
- Discuss the benefits of this technology for healthcare providers and patients.
