Learning Activities
1. ‘Big Data Case Study Scenario’ activity. Split the class into small teams (4-5 students per team) and provide each with one of the following scenarios;
- Scenario 1: A healthcare company analysing patient records to predict disease outbreaks.
- Scenario 2: A fitness app analysing data from users' activity and diet to recommend health improvements.
Provide each team with a data set (related to their scenario) and instruct teams to:
- Identify Trends: What trends can they identify in the data? (e.g. correlation between variables).
- Analyse Relationships: What variables seem to have a relationship with others?
(e.g. does age correlate with the likelihood of a certain disease?)
- Draw Conclusions: Based on the data, what conclusions can they make?
(e.g. should health providers focus on a particular demographic?)
