Learning Activities
1. Students will participate in a 5 station anaerobic workout circuit, performing 30 seconds of work, 30 seconds of rest, rotating through stations twice:
- Sprint Intervals- 20m sprints, rest, repeat.
- Plyometrics- Box jumps or squat jumps.
- HIIT Battle Ropes- Quick, explosive movements.
- Resistance Training- Bodyweight squats or push-ups.
- Agility Ladder- Quick footwork drills.
2. Jigsaw activity: divide students into four ‘home’ groups.
- Each group member is assigned an aerobic training method (continuous, fartlek, aerobic interval or circuit) to become an ‘expert’ on.
- Students in the same ‘expert’ group (those assigned the same topic) come together to learn and discuss their assigned aerobic training method. Students then return to their original "home" groups and share their expertise about each training method with the other members.
- Students document information on a Google Doc.
3. Divide students into small groups and assign each group a flexibility training method:
- Static Stretching
- Dynamic Stretching
- Ballistic Stretching
- PNF Stretching
Groups research their assigned method and create a mini-presentation covering:
- Definition
- How it works
- Benefits
- Example exercises
- Sports that use this method
Revision Questions
1. Define anaerobic training.
2. Explain the purpose of plyometrics and its relevance to a specific sport.
3. Compare High Intensity Interval Training and Sprint Interval Training.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of aerobic training methods.
5. Critically analyse the importance of strength training in meeting performance goals.
